Dentures replace missing teeth when implants or bridges are not suitable, or when too many teeth are missing for either to work. A complete denture replaces all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw. A partial denture fills in around the teeth you still have.

The common complaint about dentures is that they slip, especially the lower one, and that some foods become impossible to eat. That is mostly a problem of the old design. A denture fixed onto two or more implants clips into place and does not move. For most people, it is the single biggest quality-of-life difference available in dentistry.

We will show you both options and what each costs. We will not assume the cheapest is what you want.

Dentures: what is involved

  1. 1

    Impressions

Detailed moulds of your gums and any remaining teeth.

  2. 2

    Bite registration

We record how your jaws meet, so the new teeth sit where your old ones did.

  3. 3

    Trial fitting

A wax try-in lets you see and approve the look before the denture is finished.

  4. 4

    Fitting and adjustment

The finished denture is fitted. Expect two or three small adjustments in the first few weeks. This is normal, not a fault.

Types of dentures, compared

Dentures, or nakli dant, come in several kinds. The right one depends on how many teeth are missing, the health of the teeth that remain, the bone, and the budget.

  • Complete (full) denture: replaces all the teeth in a jaw and rests on the gums. Lowest cost; the lower one tends to move most.
  • Partial denture: replaces some teeth and clips onto the remaining ones. Can be acrylic or a thinner, stronger metal (cast) frame.
  • Flexible denture: a partial made of a flexible nylon material with gum-coloured clasps, so no metal shows. More comfortable for some, harder to adjust or add teeth to later.
  • Implant-supported denture: clips onto two or more implants, so it does not move while eating or talking. Costs more than a normal denture, much less than an implant for every tooth.

Looking after dentures

Dentures need cleaning every day, just like teeth, and the gums under them need rest.

  • Take dentures out at night, unless your dentist advises otherwise, and keep them in water or a soaking solution so they do not dry out and warp.
  • Brush them daily with a soft brush and mild soap or denture cleaner, not ordinary toothpaste, which scratches them. Clean over a basin of water in case you drop them.
  • Never use hot water, which can warp them, or bleach.
  • Brush your gums, tongue and any remaining teeth every day.
  • Have a check every year: as the gums and bone change, dentures loosen and need relining.
  • If a denture or part of one is ever swallowed, go to a hospital emergency department immediately.

Dentures in Jodhpur — common questions

How much do dentures cost in Jodhpur? (Nakli dant kitne ka lagta hai?)

The cost of dentures in Jodhpur depends on the type: a partial denture for a few teeth costs less than a complete set, flexible and metal-framed partials cost more than acrylic, and implant-supported dentures cost the most. Pain-Off Dental Care in Sardarpura examines the gums and remaining teeth first, then gives a written cost for each option.

How are dentures made and fitted? (Nakli dant kaise lagte hain?)

Dentures are made over about three to five visits: impressions of the gums, bite records, a wax try-in so you can check the look and fit, then the finished denture. Adjustments in the first weeks remove sore spots. If teeth need removing first, an immediate denture can often be fitted the same day, so you are not left without teeth.

How long do dentures last?

Dentures usually last about five to eight years before they need replacing, because the gums and jawbone slowly shrink and the fit loosens. A reline in between can tighten the fit. Loose dentures cause sore spots and make eating harder, so have them checked yearly.

Will people be able to tell I wear dentures?

A well-made denture is not obvious. What gives dentures away is usually movement while eating or talking, not their appearance. Implant-supported dentures, especially in the lower jaw, solve the movement problem, and Pain-Off Dental Care discusses them with every denture patient.

How long until I can eat normally with dentures?

Eating with new dentures takes a few weeks to learn. Start with soft food cut into small pieces for the first week, chewing on both sides at the same time to keep the denture stable. Most people are eating most foods within a month, though very hard and sticky foods remain difficult.

Should I sleep with my dentures in?

Most dentists advise taking dentures out at night, unless told otherwise, and the American College of Prosthodontists denture-care guidelines recommend not wearing them around the clock. This rests the gums, lowers the risk of fungal infection under the denture, and lets you clean it properly. Keep dentures in water or a soaking solution overnight so they do not dry out and change shape.

How do I clean dentures? (Nakli dant kaise saaf karein?)

Clean dentures every day with a soft brush and mild soap or a denture cleaner, not regular toothpaste, which scratches them. Soak them overnight in water or a denture solution. Never use hot water or bleach. Also brush your gums and tongue daily to keep the mouth healthy.

Dentures or implants: which is better?

Dental implants feel and work most like natural teeth and protect the jawbone, but cost more and need surgery. Dentures cost less and need no surgery, but move and need replacing every few years. Implant-supported dentures are a middle path. The best choice depends on bone, health and budget.

What is a flexible denture?

A flexible denture is a partial denture made from a flexible nylon material, with gum-coloured clasps instead of metal ones, so it is less visible and often more comfortable. It is harder to adjust, and teeth cannot easily be added to it later. It suits some patients better than others.

What is an implant-supported denture?

An implant-supported denture clips onto two or more dental implants placed in the jaw. It comes out for cleaning but does not move while eating or talking. It costs more than a normal denture but much less than replacing every tooth with its own implant, and it works especially well in the lower jaw.
